I’ve been thinking about the possibilities of a Stargate SG-1 and Dr Who crossover story. Each in and of itself is easy to create fan fiction for. Stargate is set on earth in the right time period to be useful. I think I would write it from the perspective of Stargate - by introducing the Doctor as “scientific advisor” to the team, possibly in the wake of losing Daniel thereby setting the story at the end of season 5.

Which Doctor? I adore what they’ve done with the 8th doctor in the BBC novels. He’s very hands-on in his approach and more likely to join up with the SG-1 team than, say, the 7th doctor. Relations between the Doctor and UNIT are cagey, unless you go back to (say) 3rd doctor. Comments invited: which doctor would match the profile?

I like the idea of an altercation outside the SG-1 briefing room: guard saying “I’m sorry, sir, you cant go in there.” / “Of course I can, I’m the Doctor” — followed by him sweeping in, arms overflowing with folders and stuff. Hammond would be caught off balance, mouth open, as the Doctor proceeds to take over the briefing, handing out information to everyone. “I dont know who you are, but you have no right to barge in here and interrupt…”

The doctor’s motivation is absolutely personal. He’s the outsider, enigmatic, driven. Not quite to the same level as John de Lancie (who played Col. Frank Simmons), but along the same lines. Misleading the SG team, too … his motivation is a rescue mission but he tells them it’s all about technology. I keep wanting to have the Doctor’s companion (Charlie Pollard?) and TARDIS be in danger but something else keep jumping at me. Charlie is on holiday in Greece, the Doctor left her on the beach “to go and get icecreams”. He’ll return when the mission is over thanks to time travel. Meanwhile someone ELSE wants a part of this story and she’ll bash her way out of my head by force if neccessary: the rescue mission is to rescue a certain stunning redhead. Yes, it’s about “technology” that the Goa’uld cannot be allowed to have. Sorta. Compassion and Nivet. (”Rhymes with rivet … and you say you’re a technician?” - Jack O’Niell).

Yes, I just want Compassion to kick some snake-heads. Yes, I want the gate on the target planet destroyed and have her bring them home. Or, have the gate swallowed by her so they can “gate into” Compassion in a later story….
