This week’s Friday Five.

1. What’s your favorite piece of clothing that you currently own?
It’s a toss-up between the nicely aged leather jacket and my Doc Martens.

2. What piece of clothing do you most want to acquire?
Either a new pair of Docs, or a distressed/aged leather flight jacket. You know the thing: brown but nicely aged, faded in all the right places.

3. What piece of clothing can you not bring yourself to get rid of? Why?
I have some shoes… yes they are old, yes they stink but they are just so comfortable. I need something for yard work!

4. What piece of clothing do you look your best in?
I bought a suit/tie/shirt combo recently, in preparation for the job move. The aim was to look as sharp as possible adn I was busy talking with friends about the psychology of tie colours. Red says one thing, purple another. I wanted to give the impression of confidence, even to the point of being the ‘in your face, brash IT consultant’. Obviously worked.

5. What has been your biggest fashion accident?
Uhhhh. Some would argue that the flourescent shorts I got were a mistake.

Note: I am planning to make this entry into a ‘photoblog’ since the items of clothing mentioned are all eminently photogenic… especially the shorts!

I’m still here, still alive, just mildly freaked out. Why is it, when stressed, I start tinkering with such things as layouts and code? The net result is a new-look blog that will come online in the near future. This is where I am glad of a content management system like Blogger (or the soon to be used Movable Type) - I can change the template while keeping the content intact. Clicking “republish” works wonders. What’s even better is that most of the template is, in fact, a set of PHP includes, so there’s very little that Blogger can do to destroy my template.

Perhaps I ought to go into the template design business, and charge people for custom blog layouts? Is there money to be made?

Appologies, one and all. [Hmm, from referer stats, maybe that should be "one and only"] I’ve had a wierd and freaky week and cant see the intensity of life changing for another few weeks at best:

  • Interviews and Job moves - starting at a new client site Monday 19th, details might appear in a future update
  • Pete B - I’ve got the promised essay (”multi-faith?“) in dead-tree edition, now I just need to type what I’ve wriiten, it’s happening, just slowly. I’m resisting blogging anything else big until that’s done so it doesnt get forgotten.
  • There’s a new addiciton on the block: Pepsi Blue - expect my thoughts and review sometime soon.
  • Jour De Fete [Ste. Genevieve, MO] this weekend was really fun!

Take a chance on me
(Seamus Harper / Rommie filk)
Originally by ABBA, covered by Erasure.
This version filks to the Erasure tune.
Appologies to all!

If you change your mind, Im the first in line
Rommie I’m still free
Take a chance on me.
If you need me let me know, and I’ll be around
If the nanobots wont show
Or the slipstream’s down

Now you’re all alone, with the other warships gone
Rommie I’m still free
Take a chance on me.
Gonna do my very best and it aint no lie
If you put me to the test
If you let me try

Take a chance on me.
Take a chance on me.

Oh, we can go dancing, we can go walking
Now you’ve got an av’tar.
Listen to some music, maybe just talking,
Get to know you better.

Cuz you know Ive got
So much that I wanna do
When I dream I’m alone with you
You’re awesome

You want Hunt to leave it there,
afraid of a love affair
but I think you know
that I cant let go.

If you change your mind, Im the first in line
Rommie I’m still free
Take a chance on me.
If you need me let me know, and I’ll be around
if the nanobots wont show
Or the slipstream’s down

Rommie I’m still free
Take a chance on me.
Gonna do my very best and it aint no lie
If you put me to the test
If you let me try

Take a chance on me.
Take a chance on me.

Oh you can take your time Rommie
Im in no hurry, I know Im gonna get ya
You dont want to hurt me, Rommie dont worry
your programming wont let you!

Let me tell you now,
my skills are strong enough -
repairs when things get tough -
I’m awesome.

You say that I waste my time
but I cant get you off my mind
no I cant let go
Cuz I made you so….

lalala lalalala [etc - first line]
Rommie I’m still free
Take a chance on me.
Gonna do my very best and it aint no lie
If you put me to the test
If you let me try
Now you’re all alone, with the other warships gone

PromoGuy’s Monday Mission 2.31

1. Ever considered just deleting your Blog and not doing it anymore? What prompted that and what stopped you?
Without thinking about it I mentioned to our CTO that I had a site - gave him the URL - and then realized that he might actually read it [Fred, is that you? :-) ] No point being self-concious about the spelling and grammar now ... thousands of people have read them already, what's one more?

2. How about a quick review of the last movie you saw?
Reign of Fire: Nice cameo appearances from 2 Star Trek actors - Alexander Siddig and Alice Krige. For those not in the know, that’s Julian Bashir (from Star Trek: Deep Space 9) and the Borg Queen (Star Trek: First Contact). The movie didnt suck as much as other dragon movies (can you say Dungeons and Dragons?) but it wont win any awards. The tension between the main characters was welcome, as was the tough gritty world they inhabit. It had a certain “Mad Max” (post apocalypse) feel to it. 6/10 overall.

3. What’s your favorite gadget? Are you lusting for any new ones? Will you ever be satisified???
Ummm. My Leatherman Wave I think.

4. What “table game” do you enjoy playing most with other people? Have you played it lately?
Settlers of Catan, with the “Knights and Cities” expansion pack is really good for filling a few hours.

5. Have you ever been obsessed with something so much that it was close to causing you physical or mental harm? If not, have you known anyone else who has?
Pass, dont think I obsess, or anyone I know does.

6. Did you grow up in a family or community that displayed racist or prejudice attitudes? Did it influence you in any way, either toward or away from those views? How did you manage to avoid it, or did you?
We lived in East London for a few years, in the early 80’s. If you had the wrong colour skin, and walked down the wrong side of certain streets, you could reasonably expect to having the living daylights knocked out of you. Children of age 10 or so would be involved in gang-style violence and when we left the area it was starting to be fashionable to carry a knife in the bottom of your school bag. Nasty.

7. Good grief, I am starving! You got anything to eat around here?
I was thinking that myself. Vending machine here I come!

August 5th, 1995 (7 years ago today) was my wedding. Who would have thought she would have put up with me for this long! ;-b.
