In the “has to be seen to be believed” category is the Bad Taste Bears website. Some of these cute fluffy little critters want to go home with YOU.
We watched “Epoch” this evening. I think it must have gone directly to video …i. and havong watched it I know why. Not the best. Still, I’m not about to complain, it was a couple of hours curled up on the couch with the wife. Never to be sniffed at! ![]()
We’re getting a kitten. This is all the motivation I need to start digging through boxes looking for our digital camera. Expect nausiatingly cute kitten pics to appear from time to time. Now we just have to agree on a name for it, rather, HER. Suggestions invited….
The more I think about a crossover, the more that the 8th Doctor stands out. Brigadier General Adrienne Kramer (of the Washington DC branch of UNIT) would be useful - he needs to get into the SGC with appropriate authority and she can set him up. This places the timeframe for the crossover as being soon after “Vampire Science” (by Kate Orman / Jon Blum). The initial scene of the story would feature their interactions, and the setup of his cover to get into the SGC as “Scientific advisor”, using the name “Doctor John Smith” no doubt.
The tone of the story, though it starts with a purely Dotor Who scene, is Stargate all the way. He joins the team, acting as “herald” and “mentor”. In some ways he’s “shapeshifter” as well - they arent sure he’s on their side, and convinced that he’s not told the whole story. From their perspective the story begins a “raid the base for tech” and ends up “lets blow this thing sky-high and get out alive”. Finally the Doctor needs to be revealed, but only at the last final battle for the gate home, when all has gone to a hot place in a handbasket.
Booby-trapped DHD - with optional planet-buster bomb (batteries not included) - having finished dialing the gate the team sees symbols lighting up in order around the surface. Obviously a countdown, and looking inside the DHD, the implications of it hitting zero. The gate will be destroyed, and if open at the time, send a shockwave back through the wormhole to destroy the SGC. With the gate closed they’ll all die. In the purely stargate universe this would be endgame for SG-1. With the crossover, though, the Doctor would shoot Compassion a meaningful look since she could step into the vortex and escape the explosion.
SG-1 would be dropped off at a planet with a gate, returning to the SGC without Doctor Smith. Mission reports would list him missing (presumed dead) in the explosion that destroyed the gate on P3×19-A.
Wahhh! Moan! Complaint!
Everyone seems to be doing “____ is” queries in Google and seeing what it says about their name. I tried it: “Paul Hawke is” and got zero results. Alright, “Paul is” seems far too generic. How about my initials, “PSH”?
- PSH is dealing with the subconscious cause of the problem
- PSH is gentle, effective and non-invasive
- PSH is an interpreted, interactive, modular programming language
- PSH is the brainchild of California Poet Rick Lupert
- PSH is a gold sponsor this year providing internet broadcast services
- PSH is a perl program which executes a read-eval loop
- PSH is characterized by internationaly-recognized standards of service
- PSH is the only way out of the UFO mess
What a hoot! I love the last one - the only way out of the UFO mess? Oh, and anyone that knows me will cough, splutter and maybe even spray a mouthful of their chosen beverage at the screen when they read I am “gentle and non-invasive”.
I know … I’m buying into the hype. However, I dont feel it’s possible to be a good geek and not post that there’s a trailer online for the new Star Trek movie. If you’re interested in the “inside scoop” and all the rumours that are flying, they’re online too. It’s interesting that an almost unknown actor is playing the villain, we have yet to see if he pulls it off. Remember the “odd” rule: all odd numbered Star Trek movies suck. This is number 10, so I have high hopes. I only hope I’m not disappointed.
I know some pagans read my site - I’m curious as to whether there’s any evidence of groups mis-applying the threefold law of return, twisting it. For instance, to justify bad actions in the light of “being the instrument of things returning to other people” (that they, the misusers, deem as bad / wrong / etc). Do people pass it off as being irrelevant, in the sense of thing coming back to them ‘in another life’ and siomply living for themselves today without thought of consequences? Comments are OK, discussion in the forum would be better.
Wow! I learned a new word today!
ambivert (noun)
One who falls between the two extremes of introversion and extroversion, possessing some of the tendencies of each.
In other words, someone who’s on the cusp between, say, ESTJ and ISTJ for instance. Do you think I’d get odd looks from people if I tell them “I’m an ambivert”? You think they might threaten to lock me up?
I’ve been thinking about the possibilities of a Stargate SG-1 and Dr Who crossover story. Each in and of itself is easy to create fan fiction for. Stargate is set on earth in the right time period to be useful. I think I would write it from the perspective of Stargate - by introducing the Doctor as “scientific advisor” to the team, possibly in the wake of losing Daniel thereby setting the story at the end of season 5.
Which Doctor? I adore what they’ve done with the 8th doctor in the BBC novels. He’s very hands-on in his approach and more likely to join up with the SG-1 team than, say, the 7th doctor. Relations between the Doctor and UNIT are cagey, unless you go back to (say) 3rd doctor. Comments invited: which doctor would match the profile?
I like the idea of an altercation outside the SG-1 briefing room: guard saying “I’m sorry, sir, you cant go in there.” / “Of course I can, I’m the Doctor” — followed by him sweeping in, arms overflowing with folders and stuff. Hammond would be caught off balance, mouth open, as the Doctor proceeds to take over the briefing, handing out information to everyone. “I dont know who you are, but you have no right to barge in here and interrupt…”
The doctor’s motivation is absolutely personal. He’s the outsider, enigmatic, driven. Not quite to the same level as John de Lancie (who played Col. Frank Simmons), but along the same lines. Misleading the SG team, too … his motivation is a rescue mission but he tells them it’s all about technology. I keep wanting to have the Doctor’s companion (Charlie Pollard?) and TARDIS be in danger but something else keep jumping at me. Charlie is on holiday in Greece, the Doctor left her on the beach “to go and get icecreams”. He’ll return when the mission is over thanks to time travel. Meanwhile someone ELSE wants a part of this story and she’ll bash her way out of my head by force if neccessary: the rescue mission is to rescue a certain stunning redhead. Yes, it’s about “technology” that the Goa’uld cannot be allowed to have. Sorta. Compassion and Nivet. (”Rhymes with rivet … and you say you’re a technician?” - Jack O’Niell).
Yes, I just want Compassion to kick some snake-heads. Yes, I want the gate on the target planet destroyed and have her bring them home. Or, have the gate swallowed by her so they can “gate into” Compassion in a later story….
On June 17, Scientific American published an article :
15 Answers to Creationist Nonsense
By John Rennie“Opponents of evolution want to make a place for creationism by tearing down real science, but their arguments don’t hold up”
I’ve been waiting for a group on the other side of the argument to publish a response. On June 20, Answers in Genesis Ministries International, responded
15 ways to refute materialistic bigotry
by Jonathan SarfatiA point by point response to Scientific American
Evidently the evolutionists fear the increasing spread of creationist information, despite their best efforts at censorship. So they are desperate to counteract this information. But their efforts don’t withstand scientific scrutiny, and in the end evolution is admitted to be a deduction from a materialistic belief system. It is philosophy/religion dressed up as “science”.
I highly encourage you read both sides of the discussion before making your mind up. Feel free to discuss thoughts in my own discussion forums.
